In general, the extended balcony can vary from a few extra feet to double the size. With a balcony cabin, you have access to the fresh air and ocean views at any time on a private verandah. Additionally, you can see the scenery right from your cabin without having to go to the top deck.

The largest suites sleep up to eight and wrap around the side of the ship with 772 square feet of outdoor space. You can hold a party at your outdoor bar or sit down to an alfresco, room-service dinner. Carnival’s themed staterooms, including the Havana balconies, Family Harbor balconies, and Cloud 9 Spa balconies, are all unique to the cruise line.

Your Balcony May Not Be Private
They represent the next generation of cruise ship balcony design. This is because the doors leading to balconies in balcony cabins usually are made almost entirely of glass running from floor to ceiling. Ocean-view cabins without balconies, by contrast, often have just a single window. If you have a balcony cabin, you're always guaranteed an outdoor space where you can lounge for a few hours in complete privacy.

There are some cruise itineraries that are very port intensive, and have few or even no sea days. In this case, if you booked the cruise planning to be off the ship exploring the ports of call, a balcony cabin may be a waste of money on your cruise. This probably goes without saying, but if you’re claustrophobic, having a balcony is absolutely worth the money.

At the push of a button, the top half of a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass in your cabin slides down like a car window to let in the fresh ocean air. If you want, you can close off the section of your room closest to the window by sliding shut a pair of folding doors. Once that is done, you have a cozy spot with two chairs and a cocktail table where you can admire the sea or enjoy your morning coffee — even if your cabinmate is still sleeping. Still, you'll find at least a few suites of a decent size on every Princess ship. Balcony cabins are what everyone wants these days, and Princess is delivering with huge numbers of balcony cabins on all its newest ships. On the line's new Royal Class series of ships, which began debuting in 2013, nearly 80% of rooms are balcony cabins.
Suites with balconies
On many Princess ships that have ocean-view cabins, the rooms are mostly found just above the promenade deck, where the lifeboats hang, and have obstructed views. You'll also sometimes find a few ocean-view cabins at the back of Princess vessels, facing the wake. Notably, every single cabin facing the sea on three of the newest Princess ships — Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess — has a balcony. These three vessels are completely devoid of ocean-view cabins (cabins facing the sea that only have a window). That's relatively unusual in the world of big mass-market ships — the niche of cruising in which Princess plays.
Just be aware that you can't use your balcony in rough seas when a watertight door seals off the space from the roiling water. Also, given the close-up view of rolling waves, these cabins are not appropriate for those who suffer from seasickness. These accommodations afford a unique view of the sea since you aren't on a typical balcony that hangs off the ship, but in a cutout in the ship's superstructure. You'll have more privacy than with typical balcony cabins, since no one can see you from above or the side — but that's not the main draw. With all balcony cabins, you can just throw on your bathrobe to catch views of wildlife or of your ship pulling into port. Keep in mind when you step outside that your balcony might not be entirely private — your neighbors might be able to see you (as will the ship's security team via hidden cameras).

There also are a handful of "premium" ocean-view cabins on the new Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess that measure 172 square feet and have unusual slanting windows. Just 46 of the 1,830 rooms on the line's recently unveiled Discovery Princess are suites, for instance. Believe it or not, that's an improvement from earlier vessels in the same series, some of which have as few as 36 suites. For a special occasion, such as a honeymoon or anniversary, having an extended balcony or an aft-facing balcony would be a nice selection. These balconies allow more space, which you can enjoy privately together. While the Havana Bar is open to all guests onboard, the pool area is exclusive for Havana cabin guests.
If you are traveling with young children, these balconies are great because of the close proximity to Camp Ocean. So we’d have no issue sailing in an infinite balcony if it was offered, but would prefer the traditional open balcony if we had the choice. Let’s start with what exactly this type of cabin actually is and how it’s different from a traditional cruise stateroom. Loft Suites are "duplex suites" (on two levels) and available on the world's largest passenger ships of Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class and Quantum-class.
Ship's main cabin grades (Balcony, Oceanview, Inside) are all combined here into a 10-person "Family Suite". The layout also shows the exact positioning of furniture, 3 baths (1 with hot tub), large seating area, 2 double-sofabeds, 2 connecting balconies. Other amenities include sofabed, TV, phone, seating, safe, mini-bar, a bathroom with shower, a washroom (with junior tub), bathrobes, hairdryer. Owner's Suites are some of the most luxurious accommodations at sea. Some Owner's Suites (like NCL's) can accommodate up to 10 passengers when connected to an adjacent Suite.
